Illegal Hiring Making a Comeback: Former U.S. Rep. Phil Hare Endorses Chris Kennedy

Hare thinking Kennedy will dole out government jobs just like Pat Quinn did

“After witnessing Chris Kennedy’s pathetic attempts to court Mike Madigan, Phil Hare must be thinking Kennedy would dole out illegal patronage jobs just like Pat Quinn did. Since he’s failed at running as a political insider, Kennedy is now running as a phony reformer.” – Illinois Republican Party Spokesman Aaron DeGroot

Illegal political hiring may be making a comeback after former Congressman Phil Hare endorsed Chris Kennedy’s campaign for governor this past weekend.

After witnessing Kennedy’s pathetic attempts to court Illinois patronage king Mike Madigan (herehere, and here), Hare must be thinking that Kennedy would dole out illegal government jobs for him just like Pat Quinn did.

When Hare lost his congressional campaign in 2010, Pat Quinn took care of him. According to an Office of the Executive Inspector General report on Quinn’s IDOT patronage scandal, IDOT “absorbed” several former staffers from Phil Hare’s Congressional office who were put out of work by Hare’s loss.

News reports said the illegal hirings at IDOT spiked significantly under Quinn and Quinn’s former IDOT secretary even said the “vast majority” of people hired illegally were recommended by Quinn’s office.

It didn’t end there. Quinn’s administration even hired Hare’s son – whose only previous management experience was as assistant manager at a video store – as an assistant warden for the Illinois Department of Corrections. A separate OEIG investigation found that Hare’s son was not qualified for the position.

In Phil Hare’s eyes, Chris Kennedy would run state government like a Chicago political machine.

Lisa Madigan’s Shocking Exit From Illinois politics is Further Proof that the Madigan Brand is Toxic

Beginning of the end of the Madigan Family’s disastrous reign over Illinois

“Thanks to her father, Lisa Madigan knew her days as Attorney General were numbered. The Madigan brand is toxic for every single Illinois Democrat. This should be the beginning of the end of the Madigan Family’s disastrous reign over Illinois.” – Illinois Republican Party Spokesman Aaron DeGroot

In another shocking development on the toxicity of the Madigan brand, Capitol Fax is reporting that longtime Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan, the daughter of House Speaker Mike Madigan, will not be seeking re-election.

Lisa Madigan’s announcement comes on the heels of the departure of Mike Madigan’s second-in-command, House Majority Leader Barbara Flynn Currie.

In 2013, Lisa Madigan floated her name as a potential candidate for governor, but took her name out of consideration because of looming questions about her closeness to her father and the possibility of so much concentrated political power in one family.

There can only be one conclusion from the departure of Leader Curry and Attorney General Madigan – the Madigan brand is toxic and Illinois Democrats know it.

Departure of Madigan’s Respected Second-in-Command is a Bad Omen for House Democrats

Democrats know Madigan is toxic, yet they are poised to nominate an equally-toxic, Madigan-sanctioned candidate for governor

“Leader Currie garnered respect from both sides of the aisle throughout her groundbreaking career. As Speaker Madigan’s second-in-command, her departure is a bad omen for House Democrats. Mike Madigan is toxic, yet Democrats continue to embrace his leadership. Now, Democrats are poised to nominate an equally-toxic, Madigan-sanctioned candidate for governor. – Illinois Republican Party Spokesman Aaron DeGroot

Last night, news outlets reported Barbara Flynn Currie, Speaker Madigan’s second-in-command, announced she will not be seeking re-election in 2018.

Leader Currie, who entered the Illinois House of Representatives in 1979, garnered respect from both sides of the aisle throughout her career, but her shocking departure is a bad omen for Democrats.

Currie was thought of as a possible successor to Mike Madigan’s record-breaking Speakership. Everyone, particularly House Democrats, knows Speaker Madigan is toxic. That is why vulnerable members like Sam Yingling refuse to even say his name.

But it seems the Democrats will never learn.

The Democrats are poised to nominate an equally-toxicMadigan-sanctioned candidate for governor in J.B. Pritzker. Democrat lawmakers and the establishment seem to have no qualms with Madigan as he tears their party apart and steamrolls all opposition for Pritzker.

Will Democrats ever realize Madigan is dragging them down?

ILGOP Releases Digital Ad: Wiretap

Ad highlights FBI wiretaps that revealed J.B. Pritzker’s close ties to now-imprisoned Governor Rod Blagojevich

On the heels of disgraced former Governor Rod Blagojevich’s recent news interviews from a Federal prison in Colorado, the Illinois Republican Party is releasing a digital ad highlighting the FBI wiretaps that revealed J.B. Pritzker’s close ties to Blagojevich.

The FBI wiretaps were first disclosed in a bombshell Chicago Tribune investigative report published this past May.

The wiretaps revealed Pritzker schemed with Blagojevich to be appointed Illinois Treasurer, among other state offices. In the same wiretaps, Blagojevich pressed Pritzker for campaign contributions.

There is no doubt Pritzker’s and Blagojevich’s ties run deep.

Illinoisans should be worried about what Pritzker will do if he’s allowed to buy the governor’s office just like he bought influence with Blagojevich.

ILGOP Chairman Tim Schneider: Federal tax reform can be a lifeline for Illinois

Federal tax reform can be a lifeline for Illinois

By: Illinois Republican Party Chairman Tim Schneider

The people of Illinois are no strangers to a state government that holds them back. For decades, Springfield has been controlled by insiders and powerful special interests who look out for themselves, not the people. Our government’s resistance to change has given us the highest-in-the-nation property taxes, higher income and business taxes, and even a new tax on sweetened beverages in Cook County.

The results have been disastrous for Illinois. Taxpayers and jobs have been fleeing our state for nearly two decades, putting pressure on state and local government budgets and the working families who have chosen to stay in Illinois. Neighboring Midwestern states like Wisconsin and Indiana have taken advantage of our uncompetitiveness, opting for pro-growth reforms and lower taxes to poach our businesses and residents.

For many more decades, the story has been the same for the Federal Government in Washington.

The last time Washington tackled tax reform in a big way was in 1986. Under the leadership of President Ronald Reagan, Republican and Democrat lawmakers in Congress came together to close special interest tax breaks and reduce tax rates for every single taxpayer and business, giving American workers and entrepreneurs a competitive edge in a global economy that was becoming more free and open to cross-border trade.

Unfortunately, the rest of the world quickly caught up. Foreign governments aggressively cut their business tax rates to spur investments and grow their economies.

In 1986, business taxes in the US were cut from 46% to 34%, while the average business tax rate for overseas OECD nations was 47%. Today, the shoe is on the other foot. The US business tax rate has increased from 34% to 35%, and when you incorporate state business taxes, that average is 39%. Businesses in OECD nations, on the other hand, have an average tax rate of 24%.

To make matters worse, powerful interests groups got their hands back on the tax code over the years, doubling it in size and adding special deals and loopholes at the expense of everyone else. Meanwhile, lawmakers turned a blind eye and American taxpayers and businesses suffered as a result.

As our competitive advantages waned, factories and manufacturing jobs left American shores. Our complex and cumbersome tax code hasn’t just affected employers, it has hit employees hard too.

Other than the obvious and tragic effect of destroying good, middle-class jobs, the size and scope of our tax code is a compliance nightmare. Nine out of every ten taxpayers use the services of an accountant or tax filing software. Many deductions often go unclaimed, while others require hours of clerical work. That’s more time and money spent complying with the law, and less investing in a family’s future. That’s wrong.

But now we have an opportunity to change that.

For the first time since the mid-2000s, we have a unified Republican government in Washington that is laser focused on prioritizing major, once-in-a-generation tax reform. President Trump, Majority Leader McConnell, and Speaker Ryan have made it a priority to get this done. Even many Congressional Democrats are hopping on board because they realize that this is not only good policy, but good politics. Their constituents demand tax reform.

Successful and effective tax reform must be guided by the following principles: increase wages, jobs, and economic growth; provide tax relief for the middle class; keep jobs in America; increase American competitiveness in the global economy; and simplify the tax code. Reducing tax rates, eliminating special interest loopholes, and encouraging investment here in America can achieve all of those goals.

If done right, tax reform at the national level could be a lifeline for Illinois businesses and families who are drowning under the policies of entrenched politicians in Springfield. The political class continues to protect the status quo, but our fight for reform in Springfield and Washington must go on. Let’s stand together and reform our tax code to give Illinois families a raise and build a stronger economy.

Durbin to Judicial Nominee: Have You Now or Ever Been a Member of the Roman Catholic Church?

“Does Mr. Durbin understand that he sounds like the Southern Baptist ministers in 1960 who thought Jack Kennedy shouldn’t be President because he’d take orders from the pope?”

“Democrats like Dick Durbin have gone too far. Our Constitution is clear – under no circumstances can a religious test be used as a qualifier for public office, including a federal judgeship, but that didn’t stop Durbin from pushing the envelope. If Durbin wants to challenge Catholic orthodoxy, perhaps he should leave the Senate and head to the seminary.

“More importantly, what do Illinois Democrats like Chris Kennedy or J.B. Pritzker think? Did they think Durbin’s line of questioning was appropriate? Or do Kennedy and Pritzker think Durbin’s questioning brings us back to a dark time where public servants faced persecution for their religious affiliation?” – Illinois Republican Party Spokesman Aaron DeGroot

In a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing last week, Senate Democrats, including Dick Durbin and Dianne Feinstein, grilled Amy Coney Barrett, a University of Notre Dame law professor and US Circuit Judge nominee, for her religious faith and how they think it might influence her interpretation of the law.

Their questioning was dark and ran afoul with the US Constitution’s ban on religious tests as a qualifier to hold public office.

Dick Durbin asked, “Do you consider yourself an orthodox Catholic?”

While Dianne Feinstein took it a step further, “Why is it that so many of us on this side have this very uncomfortable feeling that—you know, dogma and law are two different things. And I think whatever a religion is, it has its own dogma. The law is totally different. And I think in your case, professor, when you read your speeches, the conclusion one draws is that the dogma lives loudly within you, and that’s of concern when you come to big issues that large numbers of people have fought for years in this country.”

Durbin’s and Feinstein’s ridiculous questioning seemed to heavily imply that Barrett being a church-going, religious individual disqualified her from holding a Federal judgeship. Fortunately, their questioning drew a quick rebuke from lawmakers, faith leaders, and members of the press.

Here’s what some of them had to say:

From University of Notre Dame President Rev. John Jenkins:

…Professor Barrett has made it clear that she would “follow unflinchingly” all legal precedent and, in rare cases in which her conscience would not allow her to do so, she would recuse herself. I can assure you that she is a person of integrity who acts in accord with the principles she articulates.

It is chilling to hear from a United States Senator that this might now disqualify someone from service as a federal judge. I ask you and your colleagues to respect those in whom “dogma lives loudly”—which is a condition we call faith. For the attempt to live such faith while one upholds the law should command respect, not evoke concern.

From the Wall Street Journal’s editorial board:

…Thus did California Sen. Dianne Feinstein pronounce on Wednesday that, by virtue of being a faithful Catholic, Amy Barrett, a respected law professor at Notre Dame, may have excluded herself from a federal judgeship. President Trump has nominated Ms. Barrett for the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals. But the Democratic obsession with Ms. Barrett’s religion transformed what should have been a routine Senate confirmation hearing into a tour of the mind of the modern secular left.

…David Rivkin, a constitutional litigator, says “the tenor of questions by Democrat Senators seemed designed more to challenge the ideas of Catholic orthodoxy—a subject more fitting for a theological debate than a Senate hearing.”

Proving Mr. Rivkin’s point. Sen. Dick Durbin jumped in to demand of Ms. Barrett: “Do you consider yourself an orthodox Catholic?” Does Mr. Durbin understand that he sounds like the Southern Baptist ministers in 1960 who thought Jack Kennedy shouldn’t be President because he’d take orders from the pope?

This questioning is part of a broader effort on the left to disqualify people with strong religious views from the public square.

From the Chicago Tribune’s John Kass:

There’s something refreshingly honest about those Democrats revealing their bigotry in the halls of the United States Senate.

They did so in questioning Amy Coney Barrett, a law professor from Notre Dame, a Catholic and woman of impeccable academic credentials, who has been nominated to the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals in Chicago, a Catholic town.

Democratic U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Dianne Feinstein are applying a religious test to public office, something expressly forbidden by the Constitution. And by their questions to Barrett, they reveal themselves.

This evokes a line of inquiry from an earlier age, one asked of leftists during the Cold War but now directed by the political left at Americans of faith.

Democrats like Dick Durbin are taking us down a dark road, back to days where public servants were persecuted over their religious affiliation, saying their loyalty to our nation and our laws was in question.

In 1960, then presidential candidate and US Senator John F. Kennedy gave a speech to a group of Protestant ministers amid questions and accusations that his Catholic faith would preclude his ability to make decisions in the national interest, implying he’d take orders from the Pope and not the American people.

Some had falsely believed that Kennedy being Catholic would disqualify him from serving as President of the United States. They were wrong – Kennedy served our nation with honor and distinction.

What do Illinois Democrats like Chris Kennedy or J.B. Pritzker think of Dick Durbin’s questioning? Do Kennedy or Pritzker think it was appropriate? Or do Kennedy and Pritzker think Durbin’s questioning brings us back to a dark time where public servants faced persecution for their religious affiliation?

Time is Up, and NO ACTION on Soda Tax from Pritzker

Despite overwhelming opposition to the tax, Pritzker still refuses to take a stand for Cook county residents

Despite calls to stand with the people of Cook County, Pritzker has repeatedly avoided taking action on the Soda Tax.

He has stood by while Toni Preckwinkle and the Chicago Democratic Machine have overreached to impose this money grab. Their tax-and-spend ways have not worked for Illinois and Cook County, but Pritzker continues to “think big” when it comes to tax hikes and spending.

The Chicago Sun-Times released an editorial Tuesday decrying the Soda Tax. Look at these excerpts from the Sun-Times:

“…We still think Preckwinkle and the County Board sold the tax to the public under false pretenses, saying it’s mostly about encouraging more healthful behavior when it’s mostly about raking in new revenue. And we think the tax puts an awful lot of local retailers at a significant competitive disadvantage.

“Try selling a 12-pack of Coke on one side of the county border for $1.44 more than your competitor sells it on the other side of the border. As a retailer, you lose not only that sale, but every other sale you might have made if the customer had walked into your store instead of your competitor’s.

“The unpopularity of the tax is no longer in doubt. If Bloomberg is running to the rescue, it’s because Preckwinkle and the commissioners who voted for the tax need rescuing. Almost seven of every 10 Cook County voters disapprove of the tax, according to a recent poll, and more than 8 of every 10 say they are less likely now to vote for Preckwinkle.”

Pritzker had a chance to stand up and fight for the overwhelming majority of people that oppose this tax, but he played political games instead.

Pritzker’s excuses have gone flat. He failed to take a stand for Cook County.

Pritzker Still on the Sidelines of Soda Tax Debate

While opposition grows, Pritzker refuses to act for taxpayers

With just one more day remaining until Cook County Commissioners hear a plan to repeal Toni Preckwinkle’s Soda Tax, it is increasingly clear that the county’s residents aren’t buying the Democrat’s spin on this outrageous tax.

Tax supporters claim it benefits public health, but an overwhelming majority of those paying the tax know that it is nothing more than another money grab.

Meanwhile, Pritzker remains on the sidelines in this debate, refusing to take action to protect the 87% of Cook County residents that oppose this latest instance of Chicago Democrat overreach.

From We Ask America’s new study:

  • The ads warning people about the risks of consuming sugary beverages have either been widely seen and/or widely reported. A phenomenal 83.7 percent of the people taking the poll were aware of the health-related ads.
  • Few people believe that the Beverage Tax was passed to address those health concerns. Voters remain skeptical that the Cook County Board members who voted for the Beverage Tax did so because of health concerns. A substantial 87.53 percent of those asked chose the generic “other reasons” as the root cause for the vote. Will he act on behalf of the people of Cook County, or stand idly by while Bloomberg, Preckwinkle, and Madigan impose their will.
  • People who have seen the health-related ads are MORE likely to support repeal. While there is no correlation present in this poll suggesting that the ads have had a reverse effect on voters’ attitudes, the difference between those who HAVE seen the ads and those who have NOT seen them is indisputable. (download poll to see results).

Will Pritzker act on behalf of the people of Cook County, or stand idly by while Preckwinkle and Madigan impose their will?

One more day.

Pritzker’s $100K Contribution to Blagojevich: “Sounds like pay-to-play to me”

There’s a “trend” in Pritzker’s questionably close relationship to Blagojevich

In an interview with WLS’ John Howell & Ray Stevens, reporter and Connected To Chicago host Bill Cameron said J.B. Pritzker and Rod Blagojevich swapping campaign cash and state grants “sounds like pay-to-play to me”.

Here are some other highlights from Bill Cameron in that interview:

I’d be surprised if it were not pay-to-play.

“…This is kind of a trend in which you now have [Pritzker] in a relationship with Blagojevich. The first one being having been caught on tape in an FBI wiretap trying to get Blago to line him up to be State Treasurer.

“So being pals with Blago is never a good idea because Blagojevich turned out to be so toxic. Anyone, anything he touched is poisoned.

“And you also have the property tax break after he pulled the toilets out of his Astor Street mansion. These are things that people will remember

Cameron is alluding to the bombshell Tribune report where it was revealed that Pritzker and Blagojevich swapped campaign cash and state grants four days apart.

Pritzker and Blagojevich are no strangers to helping each other out.

Since 1996, Pritzker bankrolled Blagojevich’s political interests, and in return, Blagojevich and Chicago ward bosses propped up Pritzker’s failed plans to run for office.

While Blagojevich may have failed to elect Pritzker, Pritzker still held up his end of the bargain. Pritzker and his family contributed over $160,000 to Rod Blagojevich’s campaigns.

And let’s not forget when the Chicago Tribune published their first bombshell report on Pritzker’s close ties to Blagojevich this past May.

FBI wiretaps revealed Pritzker schemed with Blagojevich to be appointed Illinois Treasurer. In the same call, Blagojevich pressed Pritzker for campaign contributions. Pritzker brushed off the FBI wiretaps by saying his calls with Blagojevich were an attempt at “public service“.

Illinoisans should be worried about what Pritzker will do if he’s allowed to buy the governor’s office just like he bought influence with Blagojevich.
